Treasure Hunt...Part 1

Making a treasure hunt is one of my favorite things to do!
Especially when family gets together, and especially at Christmas!
This past Christmas we missed it, but were able to have one
this week while my daughter and son-in-law were here.
I try to make the clues challenging enough for interaction and brain-storming,
and if it does prove too difficult, I will give a hint or two during the hunt.
Occasionally I hide a small stash of treasures for everyone, but usually it is designated
for one specific person, and everyone gets to help with the clues.

Here are a few clues from this last hunt, and I will give the answers tomorrow.  :-)
Anyone dare to guess at them?

Twenty-Nine Degrees!

Here in the South, it's not common to wake up to ice on the trees. But that's what happened yesterday, and again today! It's quite pretty, if you want to look for the beauty in it :-)

Now yesterday, it wasn't as easy to see that side of it, as we were enroute to the airport and it took twice as long to get there due to the icy overpasses. The roads were clear, but when we'd come to an overpass (of which there were many) it would either be blocked off, and we'd have to detour, or the traffic would come to a crawl because there was a solid sheet of ice. We saw many stranded w/ dents along the way, but no serious accidents. My daughter and her husband missed their flight...and we had left planning to get them there 2 hrs. early. So we got another day with them in the city, and it turned out to be a blessing!

Today we found beauty in the different textures and colors that were covered with ice, and the sunlight illuminating them. And the sparkling droplets falling from high in the trees. As well as watching a new variety of birds at our suet feeders!

First Blooms

My first blooms of the year were Camelias which are still in bloom,
and of which I posted a picture on December 20, 2013.

The next to bloom were the Narcissus, of which I have clumps
scattered throughout the yard just to brighten things up.
After the freeze we recieved a couple weeks ago,
most of the yard is brown and dead-looking.

Oh! And I also have a lovely Christmas cactus still in bloom.

No School!

They didn't have school today; they came to my house.
And I was glad! Some of my favorite lil' folks!

Each one precious. Each one unique. Each one loved.

Panda Cake

One of my daughter's favorite books as a child was Panda Cake
Now her husband is reading this book to their unborn baby.

Snuggles wanted in on the story, and it looks like she's licking her lips in anticipation!

A Penny For Her Thoughts?

Love that tilted head...
questioning, curious, puzzled...
If I could only know what she's thinking!

By Comparison

"For unflagging interest and enjoyment,
a household of children, if things go reasonably well,
certainly makes all forms of success and achievement
lose their importance by comparison."

Across the Miles

Because my husband and I made a trip to visit my Mom for a few days,
I have been unable to update my blog as I had no access to a computer.

We enjoyed getting away, and even enjoyed a light snowfall as we were going to church.
We visited a few friends and relatives, and it was a wonderful few days.

Now back to the "real world" and the routine here at home...and that's OK too :-)
We were glad to get back to our Home Sweet Home, and thank God for safety on the road.

Beef Peperoncini

Get a medium-size beef roast
 and brown on all sides.
Put in crockpot
w/ 1/2 jar of peperoncinis and juice.
Cook on low for about 9 hrs.,
then add 4 sliced carrots (optional).
Cook about 3 hrs. longer
and pull beef apart.

Serve over rice,
or with mashed potatoes...
or drain & make sandwiches!

First Project of 2014

For a friend....
Took an unused skirt for fabric,
lengthened a skirt that was too short,
used those measurements to make another one.

Mission accomplished!
