New Grandbaby :-)

My daughter and her husband are first-time parents!!!
Within minutes after he was born, she was telling
this little one how much they love him, and
how that God loves him EVEN MORE!
And yes...I was crying tears of joy
for so many reasons :-)

My son captured this lovely photograph as we were driving along a country road.

Brunch or Lunch

I think it's quite yummy any time of the day...

3 c. cubed Sourdough or French Bread

2 medium potatoes, diced small
1 slice onion, diced small
1 Tbs. bell pepper, diced small
2/3 c. grated ham or 1 c. diced ham
1 c. grated cheddar

6 eggs + 1 c. milk + 1 tsp, mustard + 1 tsp. salt

Put bread into a greased 9 X 13" pyrex dish.
Cook potatoes, onion, & bell pepper in 1/4 c. butter over low heat till tender. Sprinkle this mixture over bread, then sprinkle ham over this, and then the cheese. Mix the egg mixture altogether and pour over all. Let set in refrigerator for a couple hours or overnight,
then bake @ 350 for about 30 minutes or until eggs are done.

Bridges

Yesterday, we visited a walking park in view of several bridges.
So many people rushing here and there by whatever means possible.
There was one bridge for a train,
one for automobiles, and another for a sky-train!
I hope to get to ride the sky-train while I'm here.

Uphill and Down

We went for another walk...my daughter, son-in-law, and myself.
Today was a beautiful sunny day, enabling us to see mountains in the distance.

One Misty, Moisty Morning...

One misty,
moisty morning
when cloudy
was the weather

With no umbrella,
we ventured out,
trudging uphill,
thru drizzle
...
together.

I'm in Surrey, British Columbia awaiting the birth of a grandbaby... and of course we were hoping the walk would hasten his arrival :-)

Finally!

After moving these plants from spot to spot for about 11 years,
I must have finally found a place where they can thrive.
Over the winter, they multiplied wonderfully!

Making Melody

"Speaking to yourselves
in psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs,
singing and
making melody
in your heart
to the Lord;"

Ephesians 5:19

I don't really know how to compose a song properly...
However, making a melody did help me
in memorizing some special verses.

Spring-Time Heart

I cannot take credit
for this creative idea.
I saw it in passing,
and asked my son
to take this picture
so I could share it.

The same yard had two
forsythias that had been manipulated into this shape, as well as a nice climbing rose trained into a heart shape in front of the home.

I believe I may try this
technique sometime...
if I don't forget :-)

Anyway, it sure did
brighten my day!
A simple fascination.

Just David

What to do when you're without internet access, television, or social gadgets?

Well, it gave me time to read! I rarely read a novel. Can't stay awake, usually.

But I found this old book on a shelf at Mom's, and I read it aloud to her.
The author, Eleanor Porter, also wrote Polyanna. This book has a similar
plot as Polyanna, except that it's about a boy! I loved every word of it!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who
loves a purely sweet story, has an appreciation
of nature, and thrives on happy endings.

Weed Wonder

Amazed again at the wondrous handiwork of the Creator!
Who finds beauty in an annoying dandelion blossom?

Did I say "annoying"? Well, in the fact that the wind carries the seeds and before you know it your whole yard can be covered in these deep-rooted weeds that are nearly impossible to irradicate!

Nevertheless, there is beauty there. It's just that maybe I don't want dandelion beauty! Maybe I want a lush green expanse of perfectly manicured lawn. Maybe I want to be in control of what grows where! Wikipedia defines a weed as "a plant considered undesirable".  I label which plants are "weeds" in my territory.

I'm reminded of life's inconveniences, mishaps, and messes.
So many times my plans are disrupted and turned upside down. And it seems the past few months have thrown things at me on every side. Unexpected trials. Things I don't know how to deal with. Hurts. Humiliations. Hindrances. Hardships. One right after another, like a bed of dandelions springing up.

But am I saying that my life is out of control? That these things abound to cause me harm? That there is no rhyme or reason to it all? Not so! For even in these things that seemingly have pelted me from so many angles...God is still in charge. He still loves me. He would not allow this into my life for no purpose. He will use these things to shape me, to conform me to the image of His Son. He will hold me, and guide me, one step at a time. He will give me strength, new every morning, enough for that day. And when I stumble, He will lift me up, and carry me if need be. What a faithful God!

Even in trials, He has a beautiful plan. Far better than my plans.

Home Again!

My mother fell about 3 weeks ago and broke her arm. This is the first broken bone she'd ever had, the first surgery, and the first haircut and perm. To be 88 years old, that is quite amazing! I spent two weeks there to help her out, and drove all night to arrive home early this morning.
The visit had some difficulties, but also blessings. One blessing was that I got to spend a bit of time with one of my sons before he goes to basic training in a few days. Also was able to see many friends I haven't seen in years! As for difficulties...the most painful was falling down a flight of stairs, and I still have many bruises that don't let me forget it :-)

Thankful that I didn't get any broken bones!
There must have been angels watching over me!
