Pure Profit

About four years ago,
a lady gave me a dozen or so
red canna rhizomes.

I planted them in full sun
and they quickly multiplied.
Several times I have
dug a few and planted
elsewhere around our yard.

This week, my husband and I
have dug and separated over
400 bulbs, and have sold most
of them already (at $.25 each).

It cost us only the time
it took to dig them!
So each penny was
pure profit!

What a blessing!

Those Eyes

She's curious, questioning, unconditionally loving.
She's energetic, playful, and amazingly funny.
She's a trusting, cuddly bundle of delight.
My husband named her Snuggles
and she's just right.

Big, Big World

It was a beautiful afternoon, and we took the grandbaby outside
for some fresh air. He wanted to crawl everywhere, and feel the
crunchy leaves (which he was scared of just a couple months ago).
He kept looking up...such a big, big world to explore!

My Turn....the Big 50!

These are from my husband's cake a few years ago.
He requested an "Over The Hill" cake :-)

I've made no such request.

Kumquats!

I was given some kumquats today, and I'm so excited!!!
This is an unusual fruit, in that the peel is the best part!
Sweet and tangy, and absolutely delicious!
It's also rich in essential oils, anti-oxidants, and fiber.

Devotional

Have I mentioned that this is my favorite devotional book?
Streams In The Desert by Mrs. Charles Cowman
It's a compilation of several authors,
and is rich in encouragement.

Meatless Taco Soup

1 lb. dried pinto beans
3 oz. dried chili pepper pods (seeded & chopped)
1 onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
3 quarts water
1 Tbs. salt

Cook these ingredients together in covered pot until beans are tender.
Now combine with remaining ingredients:

2 (28 oz.) cans of tomatoes (crushed, diced, or whatever you prefer)
32 oz. frozen whole kernel corn
3 packets taco seasoning ( I like Taco Bell brand)
2 - 3 Tbs. cumin
2 - 3 Tbs. chili powder
2 - 3 Tbs. sugar
1 Tbs. salt

This is ideal to cook in a crockpot for a couple hours to blend flavors.
I made it before church on Sunday morning, and it was perfect when we got home.
Then I cooked a pan of cornbread to serve with it. Oh yum!
You could also serve w/ crackers, tortilla chips, corn chips, crisp lettuce, etc.
Garnish w/ grated cheddar, green onions, cilantro, sour cream, avacado slices, etc.

Warm Cinnamon Rolls!

It was so fun to make these cinnamon rolls and to see and taste the final results!

I used the sourdough bread dough from the recipe posted here, and then rolled it out
and sprinkled with a brown sugar, cinnamon, cocoa mixture. Roll up into a log, and
slice into approximately 1" pieces, laying them in a buttered pan (or pans) w/ sides.
Allow to rise to desirable size (approx. 3 hrs.) and then bake @ 350 for 20-30 minutes
till done. Mix together powdered sugar w/ just enough milk to make a thick frosting.
Spread over warm cinnamon rolls.  You'll want to share w/ your family & friends!

Singing Clues

This is one of the clues from this year's treasure hunt!
The clues were set to the tune of "Deck The Halls"
and they must have been much easier than usual
because they found them all in record time!
I will have to step up my game!!!

Before "So Long, Farewell"

This was our last evening together for 2014
as one family would be leaving the next morning.
Taken just after the church service Sunday night.
