Window Garden

 Today's new venture:

I begin with some rooted pieces of
Christmas Cactus ...from a friend.
I think there are some red, some pink, and
some white...that's in the green pot.

And a Honey Fig that will eventually
be transplanted outside...from the friend also.

And an African Violet which has yet
to bloom for me.

My husband bought the shelves
from Lowes last week....just perfect
to sit in a sunny window and out of
reach of the grandbaby :-)

Small Projects

After cutting so many circles of cardstock
to make a garland for the grandbaby's room,
my fingers are quite tender and sore.
But his eyes sure lit up when he saw
all those colors!  I wish I had a
picture of that moment :-)

Then I experimented with making
a few "mug rugs" and coasters.
These are for sale in my Etsy shop!

To Spring Or Not To Spring

With a couple weeks of warm weather,
I got excited to plant things, and have
set out tomatoes in our raised bed.

Then it gets cold again!
Down to 34 degrees, and so we
covered the little plants up and
hope for the best.

All around the yard there are
scattered blooms tentatively
peeking open, as if to say
"Is it that time yet?"

Takes So Little

A bit of time...A bit of thought...A bit of sharing...
Goes a long way to show a friend a bit of caring.

Found flower pots on clearance. Bought a few plants. Gave to friends. Brought smiles.

Wishful Thinking

I'd rather be picking flowers on a warm Spring day...
but today I'm just a'shiverin' and a'wishin'. Brrrrr!
Maybe this cooler weather will kill off some of the pesky bugs & mosquitoes though :-)

Red Assassin Bug

The Red Assassin Bug preys "on a diverse variety of insect pests in the garden
and landscape including flies, mosquitoes, beetles and large caterpillars."

This is how our 9-month grandbaby took his nap today...
and with a very soft elephant for his pillow :-)

Speak of Surprised!

My husband jumped out of his comfort zone today and made this to surprise me!
He sure did! And yep, I'm quite impressed :-)

A Blue Beauty

From another quilt show back in 2008, this lovely artwork is one of my favorites.
I don't know who the quilt-maker was, but it wasn't me. I just enjoyed the beauty of it.

Scraps to Soil!

Like trash to treasure! We're enriching our soil with cast-offs!
Garden scraps, dryer lint, rabbit manure, dried leaves, and even a few fresh greens!

The load of "garden mix" that we had hauled in a couple years ago to fill our raised beds
was quite a disappointment. It will NOT absorb water! So our beautiful dreams have not
materialized as of yet since not much of anything would grow there in the heat of summer.

This year we're hoping to change that.  My husband found a farm an hour away that will
supply us with all the rabbit manure we want if we will dig and haul it. We've got two loads
so far and hoping to get more. We picked up bags of leaves from the neighborhood and
dug the dirt down to layer the leaves and scraps in. So now our dirt is beaut-ee-ous :-)

Robins Return

Today I saw a Robin for the first time this year!
Actually, there were several in the pecan treetops.
Spring is coming soon!!!

This beautiful picture is from a 1960 Sunday School paper, "We Do It Together".

The Anticipation Is Building....

My seed shipment came in yesterday!
I will try to wait a few more days before planting.

Cheaper Than Therapy

isn't a big thing...
It's a million
little things.

A good friend
is cheaper
than therapy.

To Stitch A Scotty

It's a work in progress...started yesterday, and almost finished the stitching today.
Now I just have to get some black thread. And then make it into a pillow top.
I've only had the pattern for 3 or 4 years now...'bout time I did this!

Way back when children carried lunch-pails to a one-room schoolhouse,
Moms used to slice and bake day-old biscuits to make a filling snack.

I love homemade biscuits, and I love these "Bis-Crackers" just as well!
They're a perfect compliment to soups and stews.

Outside My Door

This  lovely  Kalanchoe  survived  the  frost,
and  is  blooming  just  outside  my  door.
