Lucky Rocks

As a pre-teen, I was a bit fascinated with rocks. I think it started because my Dad had a collection of "lucky rocks" like these which I thought was just great. He told me I could find my own on the gravel driveway, and he was right! There were many intervals of searching over those years, until I finally had my own collection which has been kept in this jar now for at least 20 years I imagine. It just sat on my windowsill unnoticed, until something brought it to mind this week and I decided to find out why they have their interesting shape.

Upon researching, I learned they are actually crinoid fossils from a "sea lily", and these are actually broken pieces of the stem of a living creature!  How awesome!!!

Plant Nursery

It's nothing fancy,
just lots of mis-matched pots
that have seen better days...
but it makes a good plant
nursery for cuttings and
seedlings, and such.

Close enough to the house
to remind me to water them,
and to watch their progress.

I've had good success
propagating this way.

The soil is a mixture of potting soil, compost, and horse manure.
When I get the whim to root a cutting, I just stick it in the pot.
I'd say I've had about 90% success w/ no rooting hormone or anything.
We've gained several shrubs this way...basically freebies!

Little Boys

"Little Boys"

Little boys come in all shapes and sizes,
Shy and adventurous, full of surprises,
With misshapen halos and mischievous grins,
Small dirty faces, and sweet, sticky chins.
They'll keep you so busy, and yet all the while
Nothing can brighten the world like their smile.
And no greater treasure has brought homes more joy
Than a curious, active, and lovable boy!

Dishwasher Detergent

Another way to save some pennies!
I found this idea on Pinterest,
and it took me to this page
where I found the recipe.

I used only the ingredients
pictured above, and am eager
to see how well it works.*

I also make my own laundry detergent and
have been very pleased with it.

* Update:
I'm not satisfied w/ this dishwasher detergent...may try another recipe.

Name That Plant

Often I'm unsure if a specific plant is desirable or if it's a weed, and I don't know the name to research it.  One of my favorite go-to sources is found HERE. You can take a picture of your plant, upload it to this site, and another gardener will usually promptly identify it. I've learned alot this way, and also relish the challenge of recognizing the plants that others post.

Like Oragami

A double Hibiscus bloom
just as it unfolds those
glossy red petals.

Causing me to marvel
at the way it was so
compactly folded
inside the bud

The original design
of a Creator.

Figs For Future Use

Just to save them for later... I have processed these figs
and bagged them to freeze till I get ready to use them.
Maybe for jam, for cake, for smoothies, or whatever.
I'm sure thankful for these yummy blessings,
and for the sweet people who offered them!

Faithful And True

I just love how my Lord
brings to mind a song
that is just so perfectly
relevant and encouraging
for whatever I'm facing
at the moment.

Many times I awake
with a song on my heart
that I've not thought of
in many months, and
sometimes not in years!
That just has to be my Lord
hugging me close and
giving me strength
for that day!

It is seriously such a blessing
when a verse or song comes
to mind and I know it wasn't
of my own working. I mean,
how can I not rejoice in that?!

And this is the song He gave
me today when I realized an
answered prayer...actually
a bit of a mountain made into
just a lil' ole molehill!
How often He does that!
