Lucky Rocks

As a pre-teen, I was a bit fascinated with rocks. I think it started because my Dad had a collection of "lucky rocks" like these which I thought was just great. He told me I could find my own on the gravel driveway, and he was right! There were many intervals of searching over those years, until I finally had my own collection which has been kept in this jar now for at least 20 years I imagine. It just sat on my windowsill unnoticed, until something brought it to mind this week and I decided to find out why they have their interesting shape.

Upon researching, I learned they are actually crinoid fossils from a "sea lily", and these are actually broken pieces of the stem of a living creature!  How awesome!!!
