Ah...there's just
something wonderful
about a grandchild!

He's learning
and attempting
new things
every day!

Embroidery

It's been a long time
since I embroidered...

Getting back in practice
and hoping to make a set
of pillow covers.

One down...
one to go!

Second Day of Autumn

We had such laughs as we sang this song yesterday...
trying to remember all the words without looking at them.
And I don't mind this cooler weather one bit!

To Touch

So many new discoveries...

to touch, to taste,
to see, to hear, to smell

...in Pepaw & Nena's yard!

Scurvy Weed

Commelina cyanea (Scurvy Weed) grows rampant in my flower beds.
I find it quite a nuisance as it quickly takes over if left unattended,
but the small flowers sport a most welcome shade of blue.

So Many Giggles

So I was showing the grandbaby the squirrels and hummingbirds outside my kitchen window...
that's when he discovered the cake lid "helmet". Such a simple way to make so many giggles :-)

To The Rescue!

Several years ago,
I found a hummingbird caught
in the web of a large Banana Spider
(the big fat yellow kind).

I was able to rescue it,
clean the web off, and release it back.

Today I heard that familiar distressed chirping again...and found another
little hummer caught in a web!

After cleaning with a wet cloth as best
I could, the bird flew high in a tree and preened its feathers for about 10 minutes, then flew away. I believe it will be okay.
This web is the stickiest, strongest, most elastic web I've ever experienced. I'm sure thankful to have been in the right place at the right time.

Here is a better pic of the Golden Silk Orb Weaver and its golden web.

Hummer-Time

I don't know the why's and wherefore's...
But we FINALLY have Hummingbirds
in our yard this year. Well, for a couple
weeks now we've been spotting them a
few times every day, but as of the past
couple days you can't walk outside and
miss them! It's great :-) I filled feeders
with sugar water, and their favorite one
is closest to my kitchen window. Yeah!
They love the varied flowers in our yard
but the Firebush remains their favorite.
I will try to get a pic of one there...

Just Practicing

My daughter designed the fox,
cut out all the pieces, and we
ironed them on, then stitched
them by machine. Roughly.

The pink flannel backing sure
makes this one comfy quilt,
and I "big-stitched" all the way around. Imperfectly.

It was a bit of a practice run,
but this project is complete...
now on to another baby quilt!
