Pink & Yellow

More pics
taken this week...

Fresh-picked lemons
from our yard, and
camelia blooms too.

And a single
purple coneflower
starring in the garden.

There are at least
twice this many lemons
left on the tree, plus
at least 3 clusters of
smaller green lemons
and loads of blooms.
I'm amazed!

Amaryllis Anticipation

I ordered the bulb, and put it in this glass pot, and added water.
Nothing difficult. Now, just watching and waiting for it to bloom!
I think it should take about 6 weeks to be rewarded with a deep red bouquet.

Update: I must admit, this was not successful :-(  I planted this bulb too deep and it rotted.
I planted one for a neighbor which bloomed quite perfectly because it was not planted as deep.
The bulb just needs the roots in the water...lesson learned. So next year I will try again.

Duckie Introduction

His first inclination was to chase the ducks.
He was fearless, so Pepaw taught him to feed them.

Red & Green

reds & greens
in December!

These pictures
were taken

blooms at top,
and more
bell peppers
my husband
just picked!

Reigning Rooster

Why not "rule the roost"? After all, he is the only rooster :-)
He loves to perch on top of things and survey the scene, and crow.
And as soon as the pen is open, he and the hen run to the raised garden
to scratch out bugs, and nibble on the tender shoots of grass there.

Tiny Paper Whites

Scattered throughout my yard,
they are such cheerful little things.

Blooming white and bright
among the crunchy, brown leaves.

Heavy with their distinct fragrance
(which I don't particularly like),
so I prefer to enjoy them outdoors
rather than in bouquets.

December Green

Yesterday was Christmas...Tomorrow will be Spring!
At least it will be soon.  I mean, who can believe
Christmas 2015 has already come and gone?!

I peeked at our garden today, and this is what I found!

Merry Christmas

Waiting for the gumbo and potato salad...

Yes, I actually did make gumbo for
Christmas instead of the usual fare
of ham and veggies. And I must say
it was absolutely delicious!

Only five adults for lunch this year,
and it was good even though we missed
those who weren't able to be here. We
do look forward to having everyone
together next year :-)

And oh my...babies do make things
so fun! We enjoyed watching them
and holding them, and snuggling...

Thankful for family, and remembering
how God sent His ONLY begotten Son
to pay the price for our sin. What a gift!!!

Gripped By Love

He is one strong little man, and he sure does love his Mommy and Daddy :-)

Orange Chicken

I never considered that I could make this at home until I saw the recipe on Pinterest!
So this is the link for the recipe I used, and it was absolutely a winner. I will have to do this again.
I made fried rice like this recipe except I used red bell pepper and celery instead of the green peas.

What Can I Give Him?

This little Nativity Scene warms my heart! As a parent, I've been to many children's programs, and I know they all involve alot of creativity to come up with all the necessary costumes and props. These figures are so realistic in picturing the excitement of the
children involved, doing their best to play the part they've been given, and
looking to their parents in the audience for approval and affirmation.
Ah the sweetness of it all...I love it, love it, love it!!!

The angel with a cookie cutter star on a pole and her quilted angel wings...
The camel made of two children under a blanket to form the humps...
The shy little shepherd in the background with her fuzzy sheep...
There's the other shepherd with his little puppy in his arms...
The little drummer boy with his home-made coffee can drums...
The attentive Joseph pulling Mary & the Babe in his lil' red wagon...
And then my favorite...the "wise men" presenting their gifts:
One offers chocolate chip cookies, one brings his piggy bank with a hammer to open it
and one presents his favorite teddy bear!

Offering what is near and dear to their heart...because Jesus is worthy!

Night of Nativity

Tonight my husband and I took our grandson to see a live nativity.
Wouldn't you know he was asleep by the time we got there?!
We couldn't wake him, so we watched while he snoozed.

We started to put him in his carseat for the ride home...and he woke up!
So we did it all over again. This time, he took it all in with eyes wide,
and then got to pet the camel, the donkey, the sheep, and the goat.

Then we drove around to show him some Christmas lights,
and took him to the pet store to see the fish and birds.
Sure glad we were able to make those memories!

Lil Thrills

To pick Hibiscus blooms from our garden and make Hibiscus Tea...
To have my husband's co-worker send citrus grown from his trees...
To receive a fresh stalk of lovely greenhouse flowers at our door...

These are some "lil thrills" that made me smile this week :-)

Weighing in at 7 lbs. and 15.5 oz.,
this sweet new grandbaby already
captures a lotta space in my heart.

He's doing well, and seems to be
quite content with just the basic
necessities of life. Sleeping alot,
eating alot, and being all around
adorable! Such sweet newness!

I wonder what his future holds...

Beads, Balls, Berries, & Bells

He comes often to Pepaw & Nena's house.
And every time he sees the tree, he must touch
and name all the ornaments he can reach.

Then he steps back, looks up, points,
and says, "Tar!" He loves that star.

He insists that every snowflake is a star too.

He touches things over and over again,
and I love this time of curiosity and wonder,
and repetition. And looking for confirmation.

He's comprehending so many things,
and saying new words every day. So fun!!!
