In Taupe

The Mockingbird takes a break from his daily serenade.

"Taupe is a vague color term which may refer
to almost any grayish-brown or brownish-gray,
but true taupe is difficult to pinpoint as brown or gray."

Common Grackle

"Common Grackles often nest in small colonies, and several males
may perch in adjacent treetops to sing their creaking, grating songs."

"common", with "creaking, grating songs"....ewww! So annoying!
And yet, they are "endowed by their Creator" with such pretty color!

Because I like to know... "What kind of bird is that?"
And sometimes I wonder where they nest, what they eat, what sounds they make, etc.
Of course, there are several great websites for birders and I use some of those too!
A tidbit of information here, another bit there... always learning something new.

Critter Comfort

Who knew a critter could make a boy so happy?
Missing this little guy...sweet grandson.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines "creature comfort" as
"something that makes life easier or more pleasant".   Close enough :-)

A Wow Factor?

It's one of those lil' fun things that intrigue me...
the blue ring 'round a White-Winged Dove's eye.
Why did the Creator, make it that way?
Does it benefit the dove somehow?
Or was it maybe just to "wow" us?

Whichever way it was, I am thrilled to know that God can do this.
And to think, the Bible says "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,
neither have entered into the heart of man, the things
which God hath prepared for them that love him."
I Corinthians 2:9

Let me just say, He is worthy to be praised!!!

Fresh, Pretty, Healthy

I'm loving having fresh lettuce in my garden.
It's so pretty! And it's so good!
And it's so healthy too :-)

Favorite House Plant

I'm not feeling very successful
with my house plants...
Seems like they're slow growers,
and my violets didn't even bloom
this season. I'm trying to root
some of the leaves...we'll see.

disappointing. My husband
brought it home late November,
and it still has the same bloom!
A bit faded but still a beauty.

So it's my favorite house plant
right now :-)

Bounty Of Buds

I walked around the yard with my camera to see what was coming up and bursting into bloom.
There are so many things happening here in mid-February...too early! hold on! not yet!
A passerby remarked that the flowers are confused. And she's right!
It's like they're shyly peeking out, unsure, and unprepared.
Nothing is blooming in profusion yet...will it even happen this year?
Rhododendrons are splattered with and there. Just random.
And I have so much I need to trim, dead-head, and clear out before Spring.

This is a cluster of lemon buds. Seriously?
Look how many there are in this tiny space! Absolutely amazing!

Juicy Lunch

Warmer days bring the lilting songs of  Mockingbirds.
One of the little pleasures of life!

Bird Bait

Well, my "bait" in this case was sunflower seeds.
It drew the birds in so I could shoot them
(with my camera, of course).

Marvelous Murmuration

"The song of the Common Starling is an unmusical collection of wheezy whistles, clicks, scratching notes and some mimicry of other bird calls."
This is according to

But these awkward birds do have pretty detail in their plumage, and they do
make a most spectacular sight when they group together to form a murmuration.

Again, I stand amazed at the Creator of this creature.

Diggings & Plantings

Why do I keep these? And why do they stir within me a longing to see something sprout?
I'm ready to start digging and planting... Matter of fact, that's exactly what I did
for a few minutes yesterday, and again for a few minutes today!
I dug plants from one spot, and planted in another.
I had my reasons, of course.
It needed to be done.
