Rainy Oudoors, But Cozy Inside

Cuddles, Puzzles, Books, Dinosaurs, Potato Soup, Giggles, Noise, S'mores,
and a fort under the table! All that's going on inside
though it's rained almost non-stop outdoors.
And that's OK with me!

Birds Spotted In One Day

I must confess, we haven't
filled our bird feeders in a couple weeks...
So yesterday I put out 2 feeders of sunflower seeds,
and a suet block.

Today I spotted these birds from my kitchen window:

Baltimore Oriole (pictured above)
Rose-Breasted Grosbeak
Red-Bellied Woodpecker
Purple Finch
Common Starling
White-Winged Dove

Also saw a Brown Thrasher at my neighbor's house,
and a Black-Bellied Whistling Duck flying overhead.

And my bird feeders are now empty again :-)

New Lyrics, Old Tune :-)

(Sing to the tune of "Who Can Solve A Problem Like Maria" from The Sound of Music :-)

O who can make amazing Amaryllis?
Who can make them grow and thrive and bloom?
Who can make the sunshine and the rainfall?
Who makes the pattern of their varied hues?

O I can take no credit for their beauty,
But simply plant the bulb into the ground.
Ah! then when Spring-time comes as honeybees all hum...
For sure, it is like magic in the air!

O who can make amazing Amaryllis?
They must derive of God's divine design!

Reaching For The Sky!

It's a surprise Sunflower...

Last year I had planted sunflowers
in this spot. They grew maybe 5 ft. tall,
and were nothing extraordinary.

This year, we have at least 10 very
sturdy and tall sunflower plants, and
they are loaded with buds! They came
up voluntarily from fallen seeds.

This is the first bloom. It's not real big...
maybe 6" - 7" across. But it stands
over 10' tall!!! My husband just
measured the height last night!

The birds should love these!!!

Wooly Sunshine

Yep, he's a day-brightener :-)
He brings a laugh and a hug for me.
He's a bit on the goofy side, with a sparkle in his eye.
He's kind, and generous, and totally sweet.
He's my youngest son...just stopping by.

Long-Distance Nena

Long-distance grandchildren... I'm trying to find ways to interact with them more.
Ways to brighten their day, and just remind them that Pepaw & Nena love them
even though we're far away. This time it was with stickers and coloring pages :-)
I had such fun getting it together... finding stickers at Hobby Lobby,
and printing images from the internet that I thought they'd like.

A Whistling Duck?

For a few days now I've spotted these birds occasionally in our trees
or flying noisily overhead in a flock of maybe 16 or 18.
My curiosity was getting the better of me!
Thanks to photography which enabled me to see them better,
and Google which enabled research based on a few keywords
(duck with white ring around eye and red bill)
we now have an identity and mystery solved!

They are Black-Bellied Whistling Ducks
and you can learn more about them, and hear their sound here

Jesus Is Risen!!!

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish
but have everlasting life."

Indoor Flower Bed

No weeding here! Colorful flowers for all seasons and no need for watering!
Quilt blocks from a Grandmother, set together by me, and quilted by my Mom.

Red and Purple

Welcome gladiolas!

I believe they are earlier than usual! They were fallen
over in the garden,
so they just had
to come inside :-)

I took them to my
neighbor, and she
will enjoy them.

Wonder what
color will
bloom next?

A Bright Volunteer

This beautiful sunflower came up under my bird feeder...
the seed probably dropped last year or in the winter, and it came up voluntarily.
I didn't do anything to encourage it's growth except stand back and admire it :-)

Asiatic Lily

I ordered these bulbs offline...but don't remember which website.
However, I am really pleased. I planted some at my neighbor's house
at the same time, and hers are blooming just as mine are.
Bold and beautiful!

Sure, I'd like to have pretty manicured hands...
but I'd RATHER dig in the dirt and plant flowers.

Today my husband and I went to a Master Gardener's plant sale...
they have such lovely selections at very reasonable prices. And
there were so many choices! We both enjoyed it greatly, and bought
Comfrey, Coral Porterweed, Ornamental Pepper, Caladium bulbs,
Eggplants, Red Coneflower, a Wandering Jew variety that I
didn't have, and a succulent that I don't know the name of.

Then we went to a local Farmer's Market that we rarely get to go to.
We bought local honey, homemade breads, and a jar of Kiwi Lime jam!

Came home and worked in the yard for several hours, and got all the new
plants in the ground, several seeds planted, and divided some lavendar
to propagate more, and watered much of the gardens.

And yep...this is what my hands looked like after I scrubbed and scrubbed...
but it's a small price to pay for the joy of watching things grow.
Hard work, but it's so nice to wake up and look out to see
what's new and blooming in the yard.
I'm a country girl, sure enough!!!

Time Out!

Clueless Almost

Since I've never had an orchid till last May, I was clueless as to how to care for them.
I'm still clueless almost... scared to do anything to it for fear of killing it.
I was told to leave it alone, so with only a few waterings
it has finally bloomed again. I'm ever so thrilled!
And it's so beautiful!
