This morning I discovered that each caterpillar has now formed a chrysalis!!!
This is my first time to discover one "in real life" my own garden!
I've seen them in a butterfly museum, or in a video, or a book... but wow!

And then I saw this silk thread that is supporting a sling of a thing.
I was so confused, and so curious! How was it possible for the caterpillar to do this?!

Well, I found the answer! You may watch the process here, starting at 2:40.

What an amazing Creator
that gave this tiny creature the instinct and ability to do this!

They are different...two caterpillars I discovered on my little dill plant today.
One has black stripes between white stripes, and the other has white between black!
I think they're some kind of Swallowtails...hope I get to see the finished butterfly.

Parrot Lily

Alstroemeria Psittacina

Ummm...I have no idea how to pronounce that,
so I'll stick with the common name, Parrot Lily.

Red-Bellied Woodpecker

My husband just replenished the seed in the feeder,
and soon afterwards we had this visitor...
I'm always excited to see a woodpecker so close-up!

Great Faith, Great Success

"America is a nation of believers. In towns all across our land, it's plain to see what we easily forget -- so easily we forget this, that the quality of our lives is not defined by our material success, but by our spiritual success.

I will tell you that and I tell you that from somebody that has had material success and knows tremendous numbers of people with great material success, the most material success. Many of those people are very, very miserable, unhappy people.

And I know a lot of people without that, but they have great families. They have great faith; they don't have money, at least, not nearly to the extent. And they're happy. Those, to me, are the successful people, I have to tell you."

I think this home would be quite nice if I were a bird...
but I'm not a bird, and it remains vacant this year.

Angel Wings

One of the common names of Caladiums is Angel Wings.
I love all the variety of colors they come in!

Comic Relief!

The little Purple Finches have started eating the seeds
from the sunflower heads before they're even dried out!
But I was quite surprised (and really tickled) to see a squirrel
at the tip top of the stalk, doing all sort of acrobatics to get his share!

That's No Hummer, Folks!

This lizard (or his twin) has visited our feeder several times within the past week.
The purple finches (male & female) have visited several times also.
And a hummingbird has appeared one time.
Well, keeps it interesting!

Bits Of Bounty

Well, we do have more squash to come, but this is the first.
And also the first of many tomatoes if the birds don't get them.
I put out rubber snakes to deter them, and within hours I came
back out to the garden and jumped at the sight of one!
Hopefully it will be as effective with the birds :-)

Mature Markings

Here is an adult and an almost-matured juvenile White-Winged Dove.
Notice the difference in the coloring of the feet and bill, and also the lack of blue around the eye.

Not Science Fiction!

How is this for amazing? Not that I think it's cute and cuddly...
But how intricately designed! And how interesting!
Found this in a local park today :-)

And this same Designer / Creator says,
"...Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,
neither have entered into the heart of man,
the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."
I Corinthians 2:9

And I believe Him!

Tall, Fast-Growing Sunflowers!

These plants have
amazed me on a
daily basis :-)

First of all, they must
have grown from seed
I planted last Spring
unless they're from the
seed that dropped
from last year's plants.

And then they grew
so could
see them changing
day by day!

My husband measured
one a week ago,
and at that time it was
already over 10 feet tall!

Today I noticed that
one plant has a lighter
colored bloom, so I'm
curious if the others
may be yet another color!

And a bonus is that
the bees love it too!

This is the lighter colored sunflower...the first one to bloom on it's stalk.
Notice in the above photo that those blooms come from one stalk,
and there are several more stalks waiting to bloom.

Children's Children

"Children's children are the crown of old men..."

Proverbs 17:6

OK...he's not that old yet. But they are treasures :-)
