Monkey See, Monkey Do :-)

I'm no kin to the monkey...no, no, no...
but I can learn easier by watching somebody do something!
After watching a video showing how to make this simple bread
I knew I had to try it! And I must say, it's just as easy as they say it is!!!
Inexpensive (about $.40/loaf!), I can hardly wait to experiment with different
flours, herbs, and shapes too! The dough can be made ahead and stored in the
refrigerator for up to 2 weeks! I plan to make it again and again!

Reminded

When I can walk out
on the patio
and see colors
greeting me
and know that
they came from
a tiny seed
that we planted
in the dirt,
well then I'm reminded
that there is
nothing
too hard
for God.
Nothing.

Of Cannas And Caladiums

Seems to me that God wanted us to enjoy these beauties!
Why else make them so lavishly colored...even heart-shaped...
I know gardening is not the most important thing in the world,
but it was His original plan for the first man and woman to live in a garden!
Now, how 'bout that? I like to wonder what it might have been like.
He could have planted them smack-dab in the middle of a concrete jungle
or in a desert... He could have given them a fine mansion then and there.
But nope...He set them in a garden to tend it and enjoy the fruit of it.

Missing Together

Those days when the children were little...
Those days when there was a houseful of chatter...
Those days when so many things were going on at once...

I miss those days. I miss the togetherness. I miss them.

Preying / Praying

It's named the Praying Mantis because it holds it's front legs like in a gesture of prayer.
It's named the Preying Mantis because it catches other insects and eats them!

Either name is applicable and will bring up this creature in a Google search.
I don't see them often, so was excited to get a picture, though it's not as detailed as I wanted.

Hairy Legs!

Hairy legs!  Will you just look at 'em!?

And I love the intricate detail in the wings!

Hippo Taken

"I'm sorry I missed your birthday!
How could I miss such a big event?"

That is what the front of this vintage card says.

I love the random and fun artwork :-)

I listed it yesterday in my Etsy shop, and it has already sold!

Reprieve From Salads

Lately it's salads...noon and night.
And salad is good; I mean, it's alright.
But variety is nice, and it's oh so yummy
When home-cooked veggies fill the tummy :-)

(green beans & carrots, brussel sprouts, sauteed eggplant)

One Day Only!

They're Daylilies!
Each bloom only stays open one day, and then twists closed, and another bud opens.

Patience and Perseverance

Years ago, my Mom hand-pieced this lovely Log Cabin wall quilt.
Each tiny finger-sized strip she cut and pieced by hand.
No rotary cutter, no paper piecing, and no machine stitches!
Just much patience and perseverance, and I treasure it.

Crinkled Beauty

Don't those blooms look like crinkled tissue paper?
Maybe that's why they're called "Crepe" Myrtles!

Tadpoles

With the last rain, we had standing water in our ditch and it's now filled with tadpoles!
Given that I believe there are at least 70 in this small portion of the water,
I'm guessing there are 500 or more of the wiggly lil' swimmers.
I don't know what kind they are, but I'm trying to keep an eye
on their progress. At least I guess they'd eat any mosquito larvae!

Escape!

While working around the house, I love to listen to this CD of Singing Birds.
It gives me the illusion that I'm in the country with open screen windows.
It's like an escape from the real world, I guess. So much nicer than listening to the news!
And the picture in the background was colored by my lil' grandson. So sweet :-)
